Description
Conch Key is located at mile marker 63 in the Florida Keys. This quaint little lobster fishing village spreads across the Overseas Highway on both the Atlantic Ocean side for Sunrises and the Gulf of Mexico side for sunsets of which both are quite spectacular. Many of the local residents have painted their little cottages in quaint colors with their own style of conch art. Some of the part time residents have built lovely two story homes to enjoy their "snow bird" retirement years. This little Island is home to many lobster fishermen who make their living by providing fresh crawfish, stonecrabs and the catch of the day to both locals and nearby restaurants. The chickee is an outdoor structure originally designed by the Seminole Indian tribes of Florida. It is made from palm fronds stacked on top of each other and gives protection from the elements.
