Description
Bonaventure Cemetery is a public cemetery located on a scenic bluff of the Wilmington River, east of Savannah, Georgia. The cemetery became famous when it was featured in the 1994 novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt, and in the movie, directed by Clint Eastwood, based on the book. Eliza Wilhelmina is one of the many famous statute found in the Cemeter. Eliza Wilhelmina was the devoted wife of Thomas N. Theus. She died on February 21, 1895 and was buried at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA. Thomas N. Theus, Elizas husband, was a confederate soldier who served in Captain Wheatons Company, Chatham Artillery. He took his place at Elizas side eight years after her death on November 28, 1903.
