Easy to build, thanks to their simple lines, and able to withstand the rugged ocean, dories were the backbone of the fishing industry, both in Nova Scotia and around the world. One of Shelburne, Nova Scotia's great claims to fame is the town's rich dory building traditions; a skill which still survives today thanks to the Dory Shop Museum.
Ginger Wakem is a fourth generation Floridian whose work has been exhibited in galleries, shops, and offices. A muralist used her nature shots to decorate the walls of local businesses. Many of her photographs were shot from a boat in the backwaters of south Florida's inlets, mangroves, and Gulf of Mexico. They have won photography contests as well as sold to multiple buyers. Her photographs of blues guitarists taken at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival are very popular and have sold multiple times. In 2023, two of her photographs were chosen and shown at the Photo Artists' International Exhibition, in Watford, England. Ginger has finished many art books for private individuals.
