Description
The Ochopee Post Office is the smallest post office in the United States. It is a tiny shed on U.S. Route 41 also known as Tamiami Trail, near Ochopee, Florida. The building used to be a storage facility for irrigation pipes of an adjacent tomato farm. It was converted into a post office in 1953, after a fire which destroyed Ochopee's previous post office and general store. The post office is currently fully functional, serving the surrounding populations of Miccosukee and Seminole Indians. The local post clerk is often asked for the famous Ochopee post mark. Ochopee is located in the middle of the Everglades National Park
